New Delhi, Sep 1 (INB) The civil activist group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday said that it has called off its September 5 India Gate march following quashing of FIRs linked to Jantar Mantar protests by the Supreme Court.
The apex court has also recorded the government’s commitment on compensation for families of students who died by suicide, CJP said on the statement.
The development was described by the CJP as a major victory for students and citizens who participated in protests demanding accountability over the NEET-UG paper leak crisis. CJP said in the statement, the Supreme Court’s order provides relief to protesters across states, including unidentified persons, and protects them from future criminal proceedings arising from the protests. The CJP said the apex court, exercising powers under Article 142, issued a “John Doe” direction covering unidentified protesters. It said any similar FIRs that may have been missed from lists submitted by the Centre and states but identified later would also be treated as quashed under the judgment. The organisation also said the government had committed before the Supreme Court to formulate a pan-India compensation policy within three months for families of students who lost their lives to suicide in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak crisis. CJP Founder and National Convenor Abhijeet Dipke welcomed the order, saying students should not face criminal cases for exercising their democratic right to protest. “Today’s decision is a victory for every student who was told that raising their voice was a crime,” Dipke said, according to the CJP statement. CJP Co-Convenor Saurav Das said the compensation commitment was an important step for families who had lost their children, adding that the policy should be fair, transparent and accessible to every eligible family. Following the Supreme Court proceedings, Das informed the CJI-led bench that the September 5 march had been called off, it stated. The CJP’s second phase of protests was held from June 20 to July 25, 2026, as part of its campaign over the NEET-UG paper leak issue and related demands, it added. The organisation said it would continue to monitor implementation of the Supreme Court’s directions and the government’s three-month commitment on compensation.
