Ei Completes Acquisition of Open Door Education

Bengaluru, Sep 17 (INB) Edtech company Educational Initiatives, which focuses on K12 learning, has completed acquisition of mastery-based learning for schools Open Door Education, the acquirer said on Tuesday.
Founded in 2001, Ei has built software based learning solutions to help measure and improve learning outcomes across grades and geographies. Open Door, founded in 2013 by IIT Madras alumni – Abhishek and Aneesh, partners with schools to help students revisit and master core ideas through carefully designed questions and practice modules.
“Educational Initiatives (Ei) …announced the completion of its acquisition of Open Door Education, an innovator in mastery-based learning for schools. This partnership will unite their complementary strengths in diagnostic assessments and thinking-focused evaluation to expand their transformative impact across schools in India and overseas,” Ei said in a statement.
The acquirer sees that move as strategic alignment that will enhance the impact of Ei’s comprehensive assessment suite, including ASSET and CARES, by integrating Open Door’s thinking-focused approach.
Ei said that the acquisition is timely as major school boards including CBSE and India’s education ministry under National Education Policy (NEP) are pushing for reforms to improve learning outcomes in schools.
“If we want to change how children learn, we must change how they are tested. At Ei, we have always believed that assessments must improve learning, not only measure it. We have tremendous respect for what Open Door has achieved with their Thinking Assessments – an elegant, streamlined approach that empowers schools to move beyond rote learning,” Ei , Chief Executive Officer, Pranav Kothari said.
He said that the partnership strengthens Ei’s ability to serve schools and governments with research backed, scalable solutions that put the child’s learning at the centre. We are delighted to welcome Aneesh and the Open Door team to Ei.”
“Joining Ei allows us to scale this vision to thousands more classrooms in India and overseas. Ei’s reach, research orientation, and track record with governments and large school networks make it the ideal home for Open Door’s mission. Together, we will build solutions that ensure every child learns with depth and clarity,” Open Door Co-Founder Aneesh Bangia said.
This partnership plans to serve over 1,000 schools nationwide, uniting expertise in diagnostic assessments, thinking-focused evaluation, and assessment design.
