Victoria University India begins academic operations at Delhi NCR campus, welcomes first UG cohort

New Delhi, Aug 25 (INB) Victoria University India has commenced academic operations at its Delhi NCR campus with the admission of its inaugural undergraduate cohort, marking the Australian varsity’s academic debut in the country, according to an official statement on Tuesday. The first undergraduate (UG) classes have begun with programmes in business and data science, while the postgraduate cohort is scheduled to commence from September 28, 2026, the university said. The commencement follows approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for Victoria University to operationalise its India campus, paving the way for it to introduce its VU Block Model to Indian students. Under the Block Model, students study one subject at a time through intensive learning blocks, allowing them to engage more deeply with coursework, interact closely with faculty and apply their learning through practical experiences, the university said. Prof Karen Dodd, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Victoria University India, said the university was pleased to introduce the VU Block Model to students in India, describing it as an approach centred on focused learning, engagement and practical application. More than 30 students from the inaugural undergraduate cohort have received the Victoria University Block Model Scholarship, which provides tuition fee waivers of up to Rs 3 lakh per year for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the Delhi NCR campus, according to the university. Abhishek Sharma, Chief Operating Officer, Victoria University India, said significant work had gone into preparing the campus, teams and learning environment ahead of the commencement of classes. The university said it had completed academic and non-academic hiring ahead of the launch, with faculty and staff undergoing training on the VU Block Model and curriculum. Students at the India campus will also have access to Victoria University’s Global Mobility Program, which provides pathways to continue their academic journey in Melbourne through semester exchanges, UG transfers and progression from UG studies in India to PG programmes in Melbourne, subject to academic requirements and availability. The university said it plans to build an academic community in India through academic programmes, industry engagement, student clubs and societies, and global mobility opportunities. Victoria University, Australia, has more than 110 years of experience in teaching, training, research and scholarship and is known for its VU Block Model, under which students study one or two subjects at a time across four-week blocks, according to the statement.
