New Delhi, Oct 30 (INB) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified curriculum requirements for students currently studying in Class IX during the 2026-27 academic session and progressing to Class X in 2027-28. The board said in an official statement on Thursday, the subjects ‘Individuals in Society’ and ‘Environmental Education’, along with the Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence (CT and AI) modules, would not be part of the curriculum for these batches. However, vocational education will remain a compulsory curricular area for the students, the board said. Students can fulfil this requirement by opting for ‘Kaushal Vikas’ or any one of the 22 skill subjects notified by the board. Students choosing ‘Kaushal Vikas’ will be assessed internally, while those opting for any of the 22 skill subjects will have to appear for the respective subject in the Class X board examination in 2027-28. The board also clarified that all other optional subjects included in the 2025-26 scheme of studies will continue to be offered to these batches. CBSE has asked affiliated schools to disseminate the revised requirements among students and other stakeholders. Detailed assessment guidelines and frequently asked questions have been provided in the annexures to the circular, which can be accessed at cbseacademic.nic.in/web_material/Circulars/2026/70_Circular_2026.pdf
