NTA to re-conduct UGC-NET June 2026 papers for English, Commerce, Sociology

New Delhi, Aug 20 (INB)The National Testing Agency (NTA) will re-conduct the UGC-NET June 2026 examinations for English, Commerce and Sociology in September after an expert committee found multiple errors in the three question papers, according to a public notice.
The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted from June 22 to 30 across 87 subjects for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor eligibility and PhD admissions, according to the notice issued by the NTA on Sunday.
The agency said it received several complaints regarding errors in the English, Commerce and Sociology papers and subsequently constituted a committee to examine the issues.
The committee found factual, typographical and translation errors in the three papers, including misspelled names of prominent scholars, incorrect book titles, errors in question wording, grammatical mistakes, gender and number agreement issues, punctuation errors and non-standard terms for established concepts, the NTA said.
The committee also found that a significant number of questions had been repeated from previous examinations and recommended re-conducting the three papers in the interest of a fair and error-free examination, it added.
The English paper will be re-conducted on September 9 from 9 am to noon, while the Commerce paper will be held the same day from 3 pm to 6 pm. The Sociology paper will be conducted on September 10 from 9 am to noon, the NTA said.
No additional examination fee will be charged from candidates appearing for the re-conducted examinations.
Details regarding examination cities, centres and admit cards will be notified separately on the official NTA website nta.ac.in it said.
The agency clarified that results for the remaining 84 subjects for which the answer-key challenge process was issued will be declared as scheduled and their JRF seat allocation and e-certificates for Assistant Professor and PhD eligibility will not be delayed due to the re-examination.
The NTA further said the number of candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor eligibility will be equal to 6 per cent of candidates who appeared in the June 2026 examination or the re-test, whichever is higher.
For the three subjects being re-examined, subject-wise allocation for JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD eligibility will be carried out as prescribed in the Information Bulletin. The agency said allocations already made for these subjects will not be reduced after the re-test.
The NTA said it remains committed to conducting examinations that are fair, accurate and transparent and advised candidates to rely only on its official communications and websites.
